Wrexham Tennis: 64% Savings with Hytronik Control

An installation that not only met ITF standards – it exceeded them.

Wrexham Tennis and Padel Centre, one of Wales’s premier tennis venues, urgently needed to upgrade its outdated lighting system ahead of the Lexus Wrexham Open – the region’s largest tournament to date.

The project was led by Low Energy Designs Ltd., who managed the design and installation of the new LED luminaires. For lighting control, they turned to Hytronik’s Bluetooth technology: a wireless, decentralised lighting control system designed specifically to meet the demanding needs of high-performance sports environments – where every detail matters.

THE CHALLENGE

Upgrade to international competition-level lighting (ITF) without construction works or interrupting daily operations.

Adapt lighting based on use: training, regular matches, official tournaments, or maintenance.

Enable independent or grouped control of each individual court.

Eliminate faults while cutting energy consumption and maintenance costs.

Provide a user-friendly solution that could be easily managed by the centre’s staff with no technical expertise.

THE SOLUTION

A fully wireless, decentralised lighting and control system was custom-designed for the centre’s day-to-day operations. This setup allows precise management of light levels, schedules, and activity-specific scenes – all without disrupting gameplay and while enhancing the overall user experience.

LumiMOD 4 LED luminaires from Low Energy Designs, engineered for sports venues, delivering up to 1000 lux with just 240W – ensuring uniform visibility without glare.

Hytronik HBTD8200V/F receivers installed in each luminaire, receiving 0/1-10V dimming commands via the Koolmesh Bluetooth network. These enable zone creation and scene control without additional control wiring.

HBP02 wall-mounted touch panel allows instant switching between four preset scenes: Official Match (100%), Regular Match (70%), Training (50%), and Maintenance (30%).

HTG02/F module plays a dual role: it retains real-time clock settings for up to 12 weeks during power outages and acts as a Bluetooth signal repeater, ensuring stable, reliable communication across the entire site.

The complete system was installed and commissioned in under two weeks – with zero disruption to the centre’s ongoing activities and no need for construction work.

THE RESULTS

Lighting adjustable from 350 to 1000 lux, fully compliant with (and exceeding) ITF requirements.
