Wireless residential lighting control in Sweden

Riksbyggen needed to optimise energy consumption as much as possible in the communal areas of one of its residential buildings in Jönköping, Sweden, without compromising safety or lighting quality.

Easyform, with the involvement of Ahlsell Sverige AB, developed a solution based on its luminaires, equipped with Hytronik sensors and managed through the Koolmesh wireless lighting control system.

The result was an installation capable of adapting lighting to the building’s actual needs, while improving the balance between energy efficiency, visual comfort and safety.

THE CHALLENGE

To reduce energy consumption in the building’s communal areas as much as possible.

To maintain safe, reliable lighting in stairwells, corridors and circulation areas.

To adapt lighting to the building’s actual usage without causing overlighting or compromising visibility.

To avoid complex control systems or installations requiring additional wiring.

To deliver a flexible solution that would be easy to adjust according to the building’s day-to-day operation.

THE SOLUTION

Easyform delivered this project through an intelligent lighting solution based on its own luminaires, equipped with Hytronik sensors and managed through Koolmesh wireless lighting control app. This made it possible to create an automated, flexible system fully tailored to the building’s different areas.

1. Easyform luminaires: designed to provide uniform, comfortable lighting suited to residential environments. In the case of the LED panels, the solution delivered premium light quality and a high level of visual comfort thanks to their microprismatic anti-glare design. Beyond simply providing illumination, these luminaires became an active part of an intelligent control strategy, ready to adapt to the building’s actual patterns of use.

2. Integrated Hytronik sensors to automate the lighting response: The luminaires were fitted with Hytronik high-frequency sensors and, in certain applications, daylight detection, enabling lighting to adjust according to occupancy and natural light conditions.

This sensor integration was key to addressing one of the project’s main challenges: ensuring that the required level of light was always available when needed, while avoiding unnecessary energy use in areas with intermittent traffic.

The project also incorporated Hytronik standalone PIR Bluetooth sensors for motion and daylight control in indoor applications, extending the system’s coverage across selected communal areas.

3. Wireless control via Koolmesh: Easyform managed the system through the Koolmesh wireless control app. Using the app, it was possible to group luminaires, adjust light levels, modify operating times, optimise sensor sensitivity and define different control logics depending on the area. Communication between devices takes place entirely wirelessly via a mesh network, in which each luminaire helps extend the signal. This simplified installation by removing the need for additional control wiring.

4. A dedicated logic for stairwells and circulation areas: One of the project’s standout features was the application of a dedicated logic for stairwells. Thanks to this Koolmesh functionality, the occupied floor can be illuminated at 100%, while adjacent floors remain at a reduced background level. As the person moves through the building, the system automatically adapts the lighting according to their route. This strategy made it possible to enhance safety in vertical circulation areas while also reducing energy consumption compared with permanent full-output lighting.
