Warehouse Lighting Control in Sweden

PVI Ekenäs Mekaniska AB has upgraded the lighting in its warehouse in Ekenässjön, Sweden, using fewer luminaires and a system that adapts the lighting to the activity in each area.

The result: a better-lit, safer working environment with lower energy consumption.

The project, delivered with Easyform AB as the lighting partner and Weinfors El AB as the installer, replaced the fluorescent lighting with industrial LED luminaires featuring Hytronik sensors and Koolmesh wireless control.

The upgrade improved lighting while using fewer luminaires and introduced automatic control to prevent inactive areas from remaining illuminated at 100%.

THE CHALLENGE

PVI needed to upgrade its warehouse lighting to:

• Improve visibility and safety in the working environment.

• Reduce the energy consumption of the fluorescent lighting installation.

• Adapt the lighting to how each area is used, avoiding maximum light output when it was not needed.

• Make installation easier with a solution suitable for an industrial environment.

THE SOLUTION

Lighting that responds to activity

Easyform and Weinfors replaced the fluorescent lighting with UFO LED Highbay luminaires featuring Hytronik SAM15/BLE sensors and Koolmesh wireless control.

Designed for high-bay lighting applications, the SAM15/BLE features high-frequency motion detection. In this warehouse, it allows the lighting to adapt to how each area is used: when activity is detected, the lighting adjusts to the required level; when the area is no longer in use, it dims or switches off according to the configured settings.

This means that inactive areas do not need to remain illuminated at full output throughout the working day.

Wireless configuration with Koolmesh

The sensor’s Bluetooth Mesh connectivity allows operating parameters to be configured via the Koolmesh app, making it easier to adjust detection and dimming to the needs of the warehouse.

Integrated luminaire detection and wireless configuration allow the system’s behaviour to be adapted to how the space is used.

THE RESULTS

The new lighting makes day-to-day tasks easier and, according to the customer, provides a safer working environment for the team.

• Lighting automatically adapts throughout the working day.

The system responds to activity in each area, reducing the need for manual intervention to adjust the lighting as the use of the space changes.

• Lower energy consumption for the business, while maintaining light where it is needed.

The upgrade combines more efficient LED luminaires with control that limits unnecessary lighting. PVI confirms a reduction in energy consumption following the upgrade.
